Advocacy

Headstrong advocates at a national and local level for the right of young people to access better mental health supports and, in a broader sense, to change how Ireland thinks about young people's mental health.

Our Youth Advisory Panel (YAP) works with us throughout Ireland to bring about this change. We have established a programme of national and community education and training and are working with the government and concerned groups nationwide to ensure that Jigsaw be made available in every county in Ireland by 2016.

Youth Advisory Panel

Headstrong's Youth Advisory Panel is a group of young people between the ages of 17 and 25 who give of their time and experiences to act in an advisory capacity to Headstrong. They play a key role in making our programmes effective, and they represent the organisation at public events and occasions, in our communications and on special projects. As advocates for change, youth advisors represent the public voice for young people on the national issue of youth mental health.

Youth Advisory Panel and Jigsaw

Each Jigsaw community also has its own local Youth Advisory Panel that works within the Jigsaw network to support and encourage other young people to access the services that Jigsaw provides.

Adult Advisory Panel

Headstrong formed an Adult Advisory Panel in 2011. The 12 member panel is made up of parents of service users, foster parents, grandparents, community Gardaí, teachers and a representative of the National Parents Council.
The Panel’s work is about reality testing our plan of action and helps us at Headstrong pick up nuances around the challenges that parents/guardians encounter in supporting young people’s mental health.
Members of the panel act as listening channels in the wider community. And bring these valuable insights to Headstrong.
